Najam R. Syed

Robotics software engineer

I'm a robotics engineer with experience in software, mechatronics, and the design of electromechanical systems, with my interests tending toward computer vision, machine learning, robotic perception/control, and autonomous systems. I'm also a perpetual proponent of employing applied math, algorithms, and numerical methods to solve challenging technical problems.

I earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue and a B.S. in Molecular & Cell Biology from UConn.

These days, my go-to toolkit comprises Python (including scipy, numpy, scikit-learn, scikit-image, and matplotlib), C++ (primarily C++11), OpenCV, and JavaScript (with a sprinkling of HTML and CSS), but I've also worked with C, Matlab, LabVIEW, and Simulink. On the product development front, I've spent more than my share of time creating CAD models in SolidWorks and Inventor or machining and building prototypes in the shop.

I'm an avid Linux convert, running Debian, Ubuntu, and Arch on my personal computers. My editor of choice is Vim, from which you might correctly surmise that, for the majority of tasks, I feel most at home on the bash command line.
